Senior Jeff Prior had two hits on Wednesday in the
Vikings 8-0 loss to Washington in the opening round of
the NCAA Central Regional.
SAUGET, Ill. – Augustana was unable to generate much offense against the offerings of Washington University starter Brad Margolin and the result was a 8-0 loss to the Bears in the opening game of the 2016 NCAA Division III Central Regional on Wednesday, May 18 in Sauget, Illinois.
The Vikings were only collected four hits against Margolin and didn't get a runner as far as second base in the game. He had four strikeouts and didn't walk a batter and only faced 29 batters in the game.
Washington touched Augustana starter
Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.) for a single run in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth before White was done for the night. White did manage to set the Vikings' single season record for strikeouts when he got Conor O'Hara swinging to retire the side to end the first. That gave him 105 and broke John Benedetti's mark which stood since 2000.
The first run came when the Bears strung together three singles in their opening at bat without getting the ball out of the infield. Austin Darma led off with an infield single and eventually scored on Ben Browdy's infield single.
In the third a double by Kyle Kozak plated two runs and in the fifth a triple off the bat of Christian Sa drove in Max Golembo and he came home on a single by Browdy.
White took the loss after giving up seven hits and five runs in five innings. He walked three and struck out six. After White left the game Augustana head coach
Greg Wallace went with a pitcher an inning until the end of the contest. Junior

The Vikings fall to 30-13 on the season and will now play number one seed Wisconsin-Whitewater at 3:30 p.m. at GCS Ballpark on Thursday, May 19. Washington moved to 32-16 and will face Rose-Hulman at 7:00 p.m., also on May 19
