Starting pitcher Ashley Anderson (8) and catcher Brittany Kellett talk things over during
Augustana's 3-2 win over North Central in the first game of a scheduled double header on
Sunday, May 1 at Carver Field. The second game was postponed because of rain and will
be made up on Monday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m.

Augustana fell behind 2-0 after a half inning in the opener, but rallied with single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings for the win. Zayne Blumberg's (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) leadoff homer to left in the bottom of the sixth put the Vikings on top 3-2 and Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) set North Central down in order in the top of the seventh.

The Cardinals did their only damage in the top of the first. Samantha Anderson reached on a one-out error and scored when Jenna Trojniar followed with a homer to left. Ashley Anderson gave up just four singles the rest of the way and retired the last eight batters she faced.

Meanwhile, Augustana was chipping away at North Central starter Andrea Starr. She retired the first eight Vikings she faced before freshman Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) singled with two outs in the third. Freshman Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) followed with a walk and Ashley Anderson helped her own cause with an RBI single to center.

In the fifth, sophomore Jordan Arndt (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) singled to left center and eventually scored the tying run on a Wilson single to center.

Ashley Anderson improved to 11-9 with the win. She gave up five hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. The senior lefty issued one walk and fanned four. Starr took the loss and fell to 9-11.

The second game of the scheduled double header fell victim to rain and will be made up on Monday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m.
