Freshman Emily Lucnik scored three goals as Augustana clinched the outright CCIW
women's lacrosse title with a 22-0 win at Carroll on Wednesday, April 27.
WAUKESHA, Wis. – For the second straight year Augustana is the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's lacrosse champion. The Vikings left no doubt on a cool evening in Waukesha, Wisconsin as they dismantled Carroll 22-0 on Wednesday, April 27.
With the win Augustana moved to 6-0 in the CCIW and 15-1 overall. The Vikings have never lost a conference women's lacrosse match. They were undefeated in two seasons (2013 and 2014) in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference and now have gone two straight years without a loss in the CCIW.
This one was never in doubt as Augustana had the running clock in place with just 16:16 gone in the first half after freshman
Carla Bennett (Marian Catholic HS, South Holland, Ill.) scored an unassisted goal to make it 10-0. The Vikings led 14-0 at halftime and held the hosting Pioneers to just three shots on goal with all of them coming in the second half.
The game was barely five minutes old and head coach
Meredith Newman's team had five goals on the board and they were scored by four different players. Junior
Anne Hopkins (Mother Mcauley HS, Chicago, Ill.) started things off with an unassisted goal at 28:00. Senior
Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) chipped in with an unassisted goal at 27:22. Junior
Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) hit the net with an assist from senior
Quinn Foley (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) at 26:20 and senior
Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored off a feed from Handrahan with 25:52 left in the first half to make it 4-0. Mayer made it 5-0 off an assist from Hopkins at 24:30 and the rout was on.

Bailey Aasen (Park HS, Cottage Grove, Minn.) and senior
Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) each scored once.
The Vikings held a 35-3 advantage in shots taken, including 25-0 in the first half. The scooped up 25 ground balls to Carroll's seven and forced 27 turnovers in the game. Augustana was good on all seven clear attempts while the Pioneers could make just two of 20. The Vikings won 16 of 23 draw controls.

Augustana will close out the regular season on Sunday, May 1 with a game against regionally ranked Colorado College at 11:00 a.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
