MONMOUTH, Ill. – Augustana let a lead slip away in game one Sunday and an eight-run Monmouth fourth spelled the difference in the nightcap, as the Scots swept a doubleheader from the Vikings, 5-4 and 10-1. Augustana dropped to 15-21 on the year, while the hosts improved to 23-9. Coach

MONMOUTH 5, AUGUSTANA 4
The Vikings jumped on top 3-0 after a half inning in the opener. Freshman
Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) led off the game with a single and moved to third on an
Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) double. That brought catcher
Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Texas) to the plate and the junior blasted a three-run homer. Monmouth starter Liz Hippen retired the next three batters to avoid further damage.
Wilson singled in sophomore left fielder
Jordan Arndt (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) in the top of the second to put Augustana on top 4-0, but the Scots started their comeback with a single run off Viking starter
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) in the bottom half.
Freshman
Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) came on to start the third and surrendered a Kirstyn Ozga single and a two-run home run to Michaela Guthrie.
Monmouth's Johnna Schultz singled in Ozga in the fifth, but Arndt cut down Guthrie at the plate on the play to keep the contest tied 4-4.
Senior
Kendra Rakers (Belleville West HS, Millstadt, Ill.) came out of the pen to start the bottom of the seventh and yielded a leadoff single to Ozga. It looked as though she might escape unscathed when she retired the next two batters, but Charlotte Park ended the game with a two-out RBI double.
Hippen (11-5) settled in and held Augustana scoreless for the final five frames. She got the win. Rakers took the loss. Wilson, Kellett and Grandt paced an eight-hit Viking attack with two knocks each.
MONMOUTH 10, AUGUSTANA 1
Augustana trailed just 2-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth in the nightcap, but the Scots put eight on the board to pull away.
A two-run double by Elena Sakelaropoulos gave Monmouth a 2-0 in the first, but the Vikings cut the deficit in half in the third. Rakers—Augustana's game-two starter—helped her own cause with a one-out single and came around to score on a two-out RBI single by Wilson.
The big hits in the Scot fourth were a two-run double by Emily Watkins and a three-run double off the bat of Schultz that capped the inning.
Kaylee Kurtz (6-3) left the bases full of Vikings in the top of the fifth. She went the full five innings and earned the win. Rakers (2-7) went the distance as well, but suffered her second loss of the afternoon. She went 2-for-2 at the plate to pace the Viking offense.
