as Augustana took over sole possession of the CCIW lead with an 18-7 win over Carthage

Meredith Newman's squad improved to 12-1 on the season and 3-0 in the conference. Carthage dropped to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The hosts played from behind early. Lady Red Maddie Griffin put her team on top 1-0 with an unassisted goal 1:12 into the contest. Senior
Anne Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) converted a
Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS Naperville, Ill.) at the 27:23 mark to tie it, but Kara Vana scored to put Carthage back up with 21:55 left in the half.

Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) scored off a
Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) assist five minutes later to give Augustana its first lead, 3-2. Elizabeth Wittenborg forged one final tie for the visitors with a goal at the 11:29 mark.

Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) put the Vikings ahead for good, scoring off a Handrahan assist 10:17 before halftime. Nolan, Mayer, Hopkins and Handrahan all scored in the last 3:45 of the period to send the hosts to the break leading 8-3.

(Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) scored the Vikings' sixth straight goal just 11 seconds into the second stanza. Carthage's Shannon Long answered 15 seconds later, but Newman's crew scored four straight to pull away.
A Cosman goal with 13 minutes to play made it 15-5 and triggered a running clock until Lady Red Kara Vana answered 2½ minutes later. However, Maduro's scored the first of three straight Augustana goals at the 9:49 mark and the clock ran for the rest of the contest.
Handrahan had a big day with four goals and five assists. Hopkins scored five times and Nolan three. Senior

The Vikings hit the road for Naperville, Illinois on Wednesday, April 20 to take on North Central. The Cardinals are currently 11-2 overall and a half game back of Augustana in the CCIW standings at 2-0. First draw at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
