Augustana's 5-4 win over Capital Thursday.

CLERMONT, Fla. – Augustana wrapped up its spring trip to Florida Thursday by splitting its final two contests. The Vikings fell 2-0 to St. John Fisher in their early morning game, but came from behind for a 5-4 win over Capital later in the day. Coach Kris Kistler's club leaves the Sunshine State with a 6-3 record.

ST. JOHN FISHER 2, AUGUSTANA 0

Lindsay Thayer was dominant in the circle for St. John Fisher (4-1). She fanned the first 12 Augustana batters and limited the Vikings to just two baserunners. Augustana starting pitcher Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.), who doubled in the fifth and again in the seventh, was the only Viking to reach against Thayer.

Anderson had limited the Cardinals to two hits through four innings, but they reached her for the game's only runs in the fifth. Neale led off with a single to center. After an error and fielder's choice, Julia Sortisio knocked in the first run with a double to center. Katie Mazierski followed with a single that scored Sortisio to make it 2-0. Augustana catcher Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Texas) cut down Mazierski trying to advance to second on the play and Anderson induced a ground out to avoid further damage.

Anderson (3-2) went the distance, scattering eight hits, with no walks and one strike out. Thayer (3-0) finished with 16 K's. St.John Fisher leadoff hitter Mazierski went 3-for-4 to pace the Cardinal offense.

AUGUSTANA 5, CAPITAL 4

Freshman Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) came through with a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh and sophomore Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) retired Capital in order in the bottom half, as Augustana defeated the Crusaders 5-4.

Trailing 4-2 in the top of the sixth, the Vikings got a one-out double from Kellett, who moved to third on a passed ball. Capital couldn't handle Isabelle Anderson's (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) grounder to short and Kellett scored to get Augustana within a run. Wilson singled to center and one out later sophomore Lauren Severson walked to load the bases. Freshman Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) then coaxed another walk, forcing in Wilson with the tying run.

Grandt pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, setting the stage for Wilson's big hit in the seventh, which was preceded by two Crusader errors.

Sophomore Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the top of the first.

Capital got to Grandt for three runs in the first and another in the second before the sophomore right-hander settled in. She retired 14 of the last 15 batters she faced. For the game, she allowed six hits, walked one and fanned two to improve to 2-1 on the year. Wilson went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two driven in. Kellett was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
