ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Junior Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) scored four goals, dished out two assists and had two ground balls and two caused turnover Saturday to lead Augustana to a 14-2 win over Concordia (Wis.) in a rematch of last year's NCAA first-round playoff game. Coach Meredith Newman's Vikings improved to 7-1 on the year, while the Falcons suffered their first loss after five wins.

The teams were scoreless for more than six minutes before senior Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) scored on a free position attempt to give Augustana the lead. Five minutes later, senior Anne Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) scored off a Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) assist to put the hosts up 2-0.

The scored stayed that way past the midway point of the first half, with Concordia goalie Veronika Metanova making seven saves in the first 17 minutes. However, Vikings Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) and Mayer scored in quick succession around the 12-minute mark to make it 4-0. Senior Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) assisted on Cosman's goal and Hopkins provided the assist to Mayer. Mayer scored off another Hopkins helper with 9:53 to play in the half and Augustana took a 5-0 lead to intermission.

Handrahan found the net twice in the first 3½ minutes of the second half before Allison Kurek got Concordia on the board with 25:16 to play. Mayer scored just 16 seconds later off a Pollard feed and Maduro and Pollard added goals in the next three minutes. Pollard's second straight score gave the hosts an 11-1 lead and the game was played with a running clock for the last 16:32.

In addition to Mayer's big day, Handrahan had three goals and an assist. Maduro and Pollard each had two goals and two assists and Hopkins tallied a goal and dished out a pair of assists. Pollard collected six ground balls. Senior Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) controlled seven draws and Mayer and seniors Cori Duncan (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and Nellie Bubb (Holy Family Catholic HS, Excelsior, Minn.) each caused two turnovers. Sophomore Analia Fowler (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) went the distance in goal, recording one save to improve to 7-0 on the year.

The Vikings finished with a 37-7 advantage in shots and a 28-19 edge in ground balls. The Falcons committed 29 turnovers to Augustana's 18 and the hosts controlled 14 of 18 draws.

The Vikings are back in action on Thursday, March 31 traveling to Wooster, Ohio to take on the undefeated Scots at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
