ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana Invitational play wrapped up at Carver Field Saturday, with the host Vikings dropping a pair of contests to Wartburg and St. Ambrose, 2-1 in extra innings and 5-3, respectively. Coach Kris Kistler's club is now 10-12 on the year and opens CCIW play with a doubleheader at Wheaton on Saturday, April 2.

WARTBURG 2, AUGUSTANA 1 (8)

Erica Countryman's two-out double in the top of the eighth scored Kristie Sommer with the eventual winning run in Augustana's first game of the day. Wartburg's Kimberly Wedeking retired three straight Vikings in the bottom of the frame to lock up the win. The teams went to the international tiebreaker tied 1-1 after seven innings.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the third. Freshman Isabelle Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) led off with an infield hit and came around to score on a single by classmate Rachel Anderson (Rochester HHS, Rochester, Ill.). Rachel Anderson was later cut down trying to steal home, ending the inning.

The Knights tied it with an unearned run off Augustana starter Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) in the sixth. Sommer and Countryman opened the inning with consecutive bunt singles and Sommer later scored the tying run on a throwing error.

Ashley Anderson went the distance in the circle, surrendering just four hits and no earned runs. She suffered the tough-luck loss, falling to 6-7 on the year. Wedeking went the distance for Wartburg to earn the win. Rachel Anderson paced the Viking offense with a pair of hits.

ST. AMBROSE 5, AUGUSTANA 3

St. Ambrose took a 5-1 lead after three innings in the tournament finale and survived as Augustana chipped away at the deficit, but left the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh.

Trailing 5-2 going to the seventh, the Vikings staged a two-out rally. After the Bees' Ashley Yattoni retired the first two batters, freshman Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) coaxed a walk. Pinch hitter Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) followed with a single to left and Ashley Anderson's single to right center plated Wilson to make it 5-3. However, Yattoni induced a fielder's choice grounder by sophomore Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Ill.) to end the game.

The designated visitors, the Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Wilson led off with a triple to right center and eventually scored on a St. Ambrose error.

The Bees' Anna Boffeli touched senior Kendra Rakers (Belleville West HS, Millstadt, Ill.) for a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the first. St. Ambrose made it 5-1 on Morgan Krieger's three-run blast to right center in the third.

Sophomore Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) singled in Grandt in the top of the fourth to cut the Augustana deficit to 5-2.

Rakers went the distance and absorbed her first loss in three decisions. Yattoni improved to 10-1 with the complete-game win. Ashley Anderson had three hits and Wilson scored twice.
