ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The second day of Washington University's Mizuno Invitational yielded a split for Augustana, as the Vikings defeated Wartburg 11-2 Sunday before dropping an 11-0 decision to the ninth-ranked hosts. Augustana is now 8-10 on the season and is scheduled to play four games on March 25-26 at its own Augustana Invitational.

AUGUSTANA 11, WARTBURG 2

Senior southpaw Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) went the distance in the Vikings' opener Sunday, getting plenty of offensive support from some youngsters in an 11-2 win.

After a scoreless first, Augustana jumped in front with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Sophomore Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) led off with a double and freshman Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) delivered an RBI single and classmate Isabelle Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) an RBI double in the frame.

Hofmann blasted a three-run homer to right center in the third and Ashley Anderson helped her own cause with an RBI single in the fourth, as the Vikings went up 6-0.

Emma Fuhs' RBI double got Wartburg on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but Augustana answered with five more in the top of the fifth. Kramer drove in the first run with a single to center. Freshman Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) had a two-run pinch-hit single and the final two runs scored on bases-loaded walks to sophomore Kate Didier (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) and junior Ashley Klauss (Trinity HS, Chicago, Ill.).

The Knights touched Ashley Anderson for a run in the fifth, but she closed them out to improve to 5-6 on the year. She gave up six hits, walked two and fanned five in her ninth complete game in 11 starts this year.

Hofmann finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI. Kramer was 2-for-3 with two scored and two knocked in and Isabelle Anderson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY 11, AUGUSTANA 0

Bear starter Annie Pitkin handcuffed Augustana for the second time in as many days in the Vikings' second game of the day. She allowed just one hit—a one-out single by Kramer in the third—in a five-inning complete game. Pitkin struck out the side in the first and allowed just one other baserunner—when Isabelle Anderson reached on a third-inning error—in improving to 11-2 on the year.

Washington (19-4) scored two in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit and added two in the second on three hits, only one of which left the infield.

The Bears put the contest out of reach with a seven-run third. The big hits were a two-run double by Halle Steinberg and Janet Taylor's two-run single.

Sophomore Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) went the first three innings in the circle for Augustana and took the loss, falling to 2-4 on the year.
