FT. MYERS, Fla. – Wisconsin-Stout took advantage of three costly errors in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeated Augustana 4-2 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday, March 17 in Ft. Myers, Florida. This was the first game of the second Florida trip for the Vikings, who are now 7-4 on the season and will face Bethel today, March 18, at 12:00 noon in Ft. Myers.
 
The Blue Devils put up single runs in the third and sixth and were leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Augustana committed three errors in the inning that led to a pair of unearned runs off Viking starter Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.). White was eventually tagged with the loss even though he struck out nine during his outing.
 
It wasn't until the ninth inning that Augustana was able to dent the scoreboard. Senior catcher John Swiderski (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) reached on an error to lead things off and went to second on a walk coaxed by sophomore Peter Doughty (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.). A one out single by junior Mitchel Ruh (Hinckley-Big Rock HS, Big Rock, Ill.) loaded the bases. Swiderski scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior Alex Fluehr (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) that forced Doughty at third. Junior Cayton Wallace's (Davenport Assumption HS, Rock Island, Ill.) single drove in Ruh from second to make the score 4-2 but Stout starter Max Sires got the final out of the game on a pop up to first base.
 
The Vikings managed just six hits off Sires with Wallace collecting two of those.
