RBI Sunday in a 20-0 win over Johnson State.CLERMONT, Fla. – Coach
Kris Kistler's Augustana softball team picked up a pair of wins Sunday on its spring trip to Florida. The Vikings tallied three in the third and held on for a 3-2 win over Catholic in their first game of the day, then scored in all five innings of a mercy rule-shortened 20-0 win over Johnson State. Augustana improved to 4-2 on the season heading into a Wednesday, March 2 date with John Carroll.
AUGUSTANA 3, CATHOLIC 2 After leaving two runners stranded in the first, the Vikings got to Catholic's Kelly Lynch for three unearned runs in the third. Senior
Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) punched a two-out single to left and freshman
Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) followed with a walk. Another walk to sophomore
Kate Didier (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) loaded the bases and the first two runs came across when the Cardinals couldn't handle a
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) grounder to short. Freshman
Isabelle Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) doubled in Didier with the third run of the inning.
Augustana starter
Ashley Anderson cruised through five innings, allowing just one baserunner, which reached on a hit-by-pitch. However, Catholic touched the left-hander for two in the sixth on a two-run single by Kristina Lozupone. Anderson coaxed a pair of groundouts to end the inning and pitched around a two-out single in the seventh to earn the complete game victory.
Isabelle Anderson had two of the Vikings' five hits and
Ashley Anderson allowed four hits and two runs, walked none and fanned four to improve to 2-1 on the season.
AUGUSTANA 20, JOHNSON STATE 0 Senior right-hander
Kendra Rakers (Belleville West HS, Millstadt, Ill.) went the full five innings in Augustana's second game of the day, shutting out Johnson State on four hits. She got plenty of offensive support, as the Vikings scored in every inning, including a pair of six-run frames.
Ashley Anderson tripled and scored on a Wilson groundout in the first before Augustana put a half dozen on the board in the second. A two-run double to left off the bat of sophomore
Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) capped the inning.
Rakers helped her own cause, driving in a run with an infield hit in a four-run Viking third and Augustana capitalized on a pair of Badger errors and four walks to add six more runs in the fourth.
Freshman
Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) had an RBI triple to right in a three-run fifth for the Vikings.
Rakers (1-0) didn't issue a walk and struck out four. She also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two knocked in. Freshman second baseman
Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankort, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI as well. Augustana benefited from 13 walks and six Johnson State errors.
