AUGUSTANA 11, OHIO NORTHERN 0 Augustana starter
Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) went the full five innings in the mercy rule-shortened win over the Polar Bears. She helped herself with the bat, going 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. The only hit allowed by the senior lefty was Hailee Lohmann's two-out single in the third. Freshman left fielder
Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) cut down Lohman trying to stretch it into a double.
Brittany Kellett's
(The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Texas) three-run double to left was the big hit in a five-run Viking first. Freshman
Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) and sophomore Kate Dider
(Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) had RBI singles in the inning.
After Belo drew a leadoff walk and scored in the second, Augustana tacked on five more in the bottom of the fourth.
Ashley Anderson helped her own cause with a two-run double to center and Wilson and Didier knocked in runs with a single and an infield grounder, respectively.
Anderson (1-1) walked one and fanned two. Belo scored three runs out of the leadoff spot, despite not having an official at-bat. She walked twice and was hit by a pitch. Wilson had two of eight Viking hits.
CONCORDIA-MOORHEAD 6, AUGUSTANA 5 Although Augustana had more success against Concordia's Abigail Haraldson than it did on Thursday, it still wasn't quite enough as the Cobbers escaped with a 6-5 win. A Viking rally in the top of the seventh came up a run short when Wilson lined out to second with the tying run on base.
Augustana took an early 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two in the second. The frosh duo of Belo and Wilson produced the first run. Belo was hit by a Haraldson offering, stole second and came around to score on a Wilson RBI single. The Vikings took advantage of two Cobber errors in the second.
Haylie Arndt (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) and
Jennifer Gray (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) each squeezed in a run in the inning.
Concordia got to Augustana starter
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Ill.) for three runs each in the third and fourth. Madison Little drove in the go-ahead run with a bunt single in the fourth and Devonie Smith added a two-run single.
Both pitchers settled in and the score stayed 6-3 until the top of the seventh. Freshman Izzy Anderson
(Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) drew a leadoff walk and
Haylie Arndt and Gray followed with a single and walk, respectively, to load the bases. Haraldson caught Belo looking for the first out, but
Ashley Anderson singled in two runs to make it 6-5. With the tying run at first, Wilson's liner ended the game.
Grandt fell to 1-1 with the loss. She gave up eight hits and six runs in six innings, walking four and fanning four. The Vikings touched Haraldson—who shut them out on three hits Thursday—for five hits and five runs (three earned). She walked three and struck out six.
Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) had two of Augustana's base knocks.
