Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in April, 2017.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — When the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association inducts its 45th Hall of Fame class in April of 2017, Augustana men's Head Coach Grey Giovanine will be among the honorees. Giovanine is currently in his 18th season with the Vikings and is Augustana's all-time winningest coach with a record of 347-125. He will join his father, Gerald "Chips" Giovanine, in the IBCA Hall. Chips was inducted in 1984.

A seven-time IBCA Division III Coach of the Year selection, Grey was also D3hoops.com Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2011 as well as Basketball Times National Coach of the Year in 2014-15.

In the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Giovanine's teams have captured seven league titles—tied for second-most of any coach in conference history. The Vikings have also captured five of the 11 CCIW tournament championships since the event's inception in 2006.

Giovanine's teams have averaged more than 22 wins a year over the past 11 seasons and have been ranked 11th or higher in the final D3hoops.com poll on six occasions during that time. His 2014-15 and 2015-16 teams won 56 of 63 games—the best two-year record in school history. In 2014-15, Augustana finished 27-5 and reached the NCAA Division III championship game in Salem, Virginia and in 2015-16, the Vikings equaled the best record in school and league history at 29-2. Those teams finished second and third, respectively, in the final national polls. Giovanine's 2007-08 (23-6) and 2010-11 (27-4) teams also finished in the top 10 nationally at fifth and seventh, respectively.

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame was founded in 1973 "to honor the best and most influential players, teams, coaches, media, officials, and friends of basketball in Illinois history." Its requirements for induction as a coach include 20 years as a head coach, 400 or more victories, "great success" in wins and tournaments and having coached most of one's career in Illinois.

Prior to coming to Augustana, Giovanine spent six seasons as the head coach at Division I Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. In his last three years, he led the Cardinals to winning seasons, including a 17-11 mark—the program's best in over a decade—in his final season of 1998-99. His all-time record in 24 seasons as a head coach currently sits at 427-210, a winning percentage of .670.

Giovanine served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Central Missouri State, in 1981 before stints as an assistant coach at Valparaiso (1982-85), Oral Roberts (1985-87), Rice (1987-92) and Wichita State (1992-93). He was named head coach at Lamar in 1993 at the age of 33.
