Combining athletic prowess with academic excellence has paid off for Augustana senior
Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.) once again. Lohmeier was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team in women's soccer for the second straight year.
Like 2015, she was a first team selection. Lohmeier is the epitome of the term "student-athlete" as she excels both in the classroom, where she has a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in biochemistry and on the soccer pitch where never missed a game during her entire career.
Lohmeier anchored the Vikings defense from her central midfield position and in 2016 she also tied for the team lead in goals with six, half of which were game-winners. She also had two assists and led the team in total points with 14. She finished her career with 15 goals and two assists for a total of 32 points.
She served as team captain for Augustana in 2016 and was named to the all-conference team of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the second straight season. She is a four-time academic all-conference selection.
During the summer of 2016 Lohmeier worked under a research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she was selected to present a paper at the American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week. She has been a research assistant in the Augustana Chemistry Department and also serves as a tutor for a human anatomy course.
Lohmeier has been active in the community as well, serving as a Young Life leader for Moline High School. She is an active member of the Augustana Fellowship of Christian Athletes and still works as a liberal studies retreat leader.
Hannah is the daughter of Heather Mabie of Madison, Wisconsin and James Lohmeier of Waunakee, Wisconsin.
Augustana has long been a leader in the number of Academic All-Americans produced, currently ranking seventh nationally with 164 (regardless of division). The Vikings are third among NCAA Division III schools and lead both the CCIW and the state of Illinois in number of selections.
A total of five Vikings have won seven Academic All-America awards in women's soccer: Cherie Peterson was the first in 2000 while Carla Wagner followed in 2001. Maggie Hoscheit was a two-time winner in 2012 and 2013 and
Somer Druszkowski won in 2015 while Hoscheit is now a two-time winner (2015 & 2016).
