Freshman Daniel Artman was Augustana's top offensive
threat Saturday, but he couldn't prevent the Vikings from falling
3-0 to North Park at Thorson-Lucken Field.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – After four straight wins at home to start the season, Augustana suffered its first 2016 loss at Thorson-Lucken Field Saturday, falling 3-0 to league-leading North Park. The host Vikings drop to 4-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCIW, while the visiting Vikings improved to 9-2-1 on the year and 5-0 in the conference.
Nikolai Ianev put North Park on top in the ninth minute, scoring his second goal of the season on a through ball from Kebba Sanyang.
In the 20th minute, the visitors extended their advantage to 2-0. Gianfranco DeCarne finished off a Chase Lennartz cross for his sixth goal of the year.
North Park's third goal came in the 28th minute. Carel Kawele-Kuzona tallied his eight of the season with Emil Eriksson credited with the assist.
The visitors had a 7-2 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes and took two corners, to one for Augustana.
The hosts outshot their guests 4-3 in the second half, putting two attempts on frame, but both were stopped by NPU keeper Wesley Woodley. He finished with three saves on the day. His Augustana counterpart,
Corey Mankins (Marysville HS, Marysville, Ohio), also recorded three saves.
Freshman
Daniel Artman (Schaumburg HS, Hanover Park, Ill.) was the only Augustana player to get off more than one shot. Woodley made a save on his header in the 42nd minute.
