win over Carthage at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Grace Iaquinta's (Lincoln East HS, Lincoln, Neb.) goal 5:21 into overtime Saturday lifted Augustana to a 3-2 win over Carthage on Senior Day at Thorson-Lucken Field. With the exception of Iaquinta's tally, all of the Vikings' goals and assists came from its three seniors—Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.), Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.). Coach Scott Mejia's club finishes the year 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the CCIW. The Lady Reds fell to 10-7 and 4-4, respectively.

The game-winner started with a long pass off the foot of Frys that found Rizzo racing past the Carthage defense on the left side. Rizzo's cross reached Iaquinta, who beat a diving Emily Furmanek at point blank range. Frys recorded her team-leading 10th assist of the season (tied for third most in school history), Rizzo her second and Iaquinta her third goal of the year on the play.

The match's four other goals all came in the first half. Carthage got on the board in the 23rd minute, when Kayla Mcguinnes scored for the fifth time this year off a corner from Jacey Kent. Augustana leveled the score at one-all nine minutes later, when Rizzo's shot from a severe angle on the left went off Furmanek's hands and into the net for her sixth goal of the season.

Erin Ganzke's header in the 38th minute put the Lady Reds back on top, but the Vikings came right back. Lohmeier scored on a header off a corner from Frys in the 43rd minute and the teams went to intermission tied 2-2.

After a combined 19 shots—12 by Carthage and seven by Augustana—in the first 45 minutes, the second half was much quieter offensively. The Lady Reds squeezed of just four shots and the Vikings three. The visitors put two of theirs on goal and while none of Augustana's second-half attempts were on frame, Lohmeier's header in the 71st minute off another Frys corner was blocked by a Carthage defender.

The Lady Reds' only shot of the overtime period, by Amy Kappelman, was blocked by Augustana three minutes before Iaquinta's game-winner.

Junior keeper Bailey Bradford (Deerfield HS, Riverwoods, Ill.) stopped five Carthage shots, while Furmanek was credited with four saves. The Lady Reds finished with a 17-11 edge in shots, while the hosts had a 7-5 advantage in corners.
