ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan scored a pair of second half goals Wednesday night to defeat Augustana 2-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings fell to 4-12-1 overall this season and 0-6-1 in the CCIW, while the Titans improved to 8-7-1 on the year and 3-3 in the conference.

In a scoreless first half, Illinois Wesleyan put three of its nine shot attempts on frame, with Augustana sophomore keeper Corey Mankins (Marysville HS, Marysville, Ohio) stopping all three. The Vikings got off just two shots in the opening 45 minutes, neither of which was put on frame.

In the 64th minute, Titan Ryan Kaplan lined up for a corner from the left side.  Augustana knocked down Kaplan's kick, but Mankins couldn't collect it and Patrick Hickey was there to put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 IWU lead.

The Vikings nearly tied it in the 68th minute, but a shot by senior Michael Brazinski (Plainfield East HS, Plainfield, Ill.) bounced off the crossbar.

The visitors added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Orion Marty scored his first of the season off an assist from Alex White to account for the final.

Illinois Wesleyan outshot its hosts by an 18-7 margin. The Titans put seven shots on goal to just one for Augustana. Mankins finished with five saves and IWU's Alex Ruckstaetter one. Corners were 8-3 in favor of Wesleyan.

Coach Mick Regan's club will play its 2016 season finale on Saturday, October 29 at Thorson-Lucken. The Carthage Red Men will be the Vikings' opponent with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
