Augustana falls 5-0 at Wheaton

but Augustana dropped a 5-0 decision at Wheaton.

WHEATON, Ill.  – David Clark and Will Woodfin each scored twice Wednesday as Wheaton defeated Augustana 5-0 at Joe Bean Stadium. The Vikings fell to 4-10-1 overall this season and 0-4-1 in the CCIW, while the Thunder improved to 5-7-3 and 3-3-0, respectively.
 
Clark started the scoring in the second minute. He scored his fourth goal of the season from a yard away off an assist from Andrew Wade.
 
In the 15th minute, Augustana keeper Corey Mankins (Marysville HS, Marysville, Ohio) made a save on a Josh Greene shot, but Clark was there to follow up, scoring again to make it 2-0. The hosts took that lead to the halftime break.
 
Woodfin got in the scoring act in the 67th minute, tallying an unassisted goal—his first of the season—from 10 yards out.
 
Three minutes later, with assists from Miseker Wingate and Clark, Woodfin scored for the second time to put Wheaton up 4-0.
 
Wingate recorded his second assist of the match in the 88th minute, dishing out a helper on Kolby Versage's goal from five yards away. The goal was Versage's first of the season.
 
The Thunder put 12 of its 22 shots on frame, while the Vikings got off five shots, four of which were on goal. Freshman Michael Peters (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) put a pair of attempts on frame for Augustana. Wheaton had a 4-1 edge in corners.
 
Mankins made six saves on the night and Wheaton's Andrew Beard finished with four.
 
The Vikings hit the road for Decatur, Illinois and a date with the Millikin Big Blue on Saturday, October 22. That match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
