Augustana got off the first four shots of the match, with Carroll keeper Christina O'Block recording saves on three of them. However, it was the Pioneers who took the lead in the 20th minute. Rachel Van Sluys headed in Gina LaMacchia's free kick from 40 yards out to put the hosts up 1-0.

That remained the score as the teams went to the halftime break. The Vikings  held advantages of 5-4 in shots and 2-1 in corners during the opening 45 minutes.

In the 76th minute, Carroll got an insurance goal when Delaney Pruitt found the upper right corner from 18 yards out.
