Viking men drop 2-1 decision at Carroll

Senior Dominick Sullivan assisted on Augustana's goal in a 2-1 loss
at Carroll Saturday.

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Mark Bayer's goal in the 76th minute Saturday lifted Carroll to a 2-1 win over Augustana at Schneider Stadium. The Vikings dropped to 4-9-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in the CCIW, while the Pioneers improved to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the league.
 
Carroll jumped out in front in the 10th minute when Caden Pruitt tallied his fourth goal of the season with assists from Bryan  Nagy and Tyler Coenen.
 
The Pioneers led 1-0 at halftime after outshooting Augustana 7-5 in the first 45 minutes.
 
In the 62nd minute, Viking seniors Dominick Sullivan (Plainfield East HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Michael Brazinski (Plainfield East HS, Plainfield, Ill.) teamed up to score the equalizer. Brazinski's goal was his team-leading 11th of the season, while Sullivan logged his first assist.
 
Carroll reclaimed the lead when Bayer scored his first goal of the season in the 76th minute. Nagy notched his second assist of the night on the play.
 
Augustana's final two shots came in the 77th and 78th minute. First, Pioneer keeper Nick Drew made the save on an attempt by freshman Michael Peters (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) and Brazinski's attempt a minute and a half later went wide.
 
Drew was credited with three saves on the night and Viking Corey Mankins (Marysville HS, Marysville, Ohio) four.
 
Carroll finished with a 16-9 margin in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corners.
 
Augustana visits Wheaton on Wednesday, October 19. The Vikings and Thunder square off at 7:30 p.m. at Joe Bean Stadium.
