North Central defeats Vikings 2-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Alexis Flores scored his first two goals of the season Wednesday to lift North Central to a 2-0 win over Augustana at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings dropped to 4-8-1 overall on 0-2-1 in the CCIW. The Cardinals moved to 4-7-1 on the year and 2-2 in the league.
 
Flores' first goal came in the 24th minute. At halftime, shots were even at six apiece, with each team putting two on goal. Augustana led 3-2 in corners.
 
With the Vikings battling to get the equalizer, Flores tallied an insurance goal for North Central in the 75th minute.
 
Augustana finished the match with a 17-9 advantage in shots, with six of the hosts' attempts coming in the final four minutes. The Vikings put six shots on frame to five for the visitors and had a 6-4 edge in corners as well.
 
Keepers Corey Mankins (Marysville HS, Marysville, Ohio) and Sebastian Garcia of North Central recorded three and six saves respectively. Freshman Michael Peters (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) was the most active threat for Augustana, getting off seven shots, one of which was on goal.
 
The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, October 15. They'll take on Carroll in Waukesha, Wisconsin, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
