Chicago Saturday at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana rode first-half goals by Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) and Andria Serra (Alleman HS, Silvis, Ill.) to a 2-0 win over 11th-ranked University of Chicago Saturday at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Maroons fall to 1-1.

Augustana's best early scoring opportunity came on a Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) corner from the right side in the sixth minute. Sophomore Sammi Farkos (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Flossmoor, Ill.) redirected it barely wide right. The visitors' best chance came in the 24th minute, when Mia Calamari had consecutive shots turned away by senior keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.).

Farell put the hosts on top in the 32nd minute with her first goal of the season. She gathered a cross from the right side by Serra and beat Chicago keeper Piper Mik. The tally was the 31st of the senior's career and the two points gave her 87, moving her past Katie Oakes into fifth place on Augustana's all-time total points list.

Two minutes later, it was Serra scoring off a feed from senior Somer Druszkowski (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Manhattan, Ill.) to make it 2-0 Vikings. Head Coach Scott Mejia substituted liberally late in the half to keep his regulars fresh in the September heat.

The Maroons outshot Augustana 6-3 in a scoreless second half, but couldn't mount a serious challenge. Chicago had a 14-9 edge in shots for the match and corners were even at four each.

Serra finished with a goal and an assist in just her second collegiate match. Chew recorded seven saves and improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Vikings are back in action at 5:00 p.m. on September 7, taking on Loras at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque, Iowa.
