Scott Mejia's 21st-ranked Augustana outfit a record of 7-2 this season. The host Warhawks, ranked previously this year, improved to 6-2.
Neither team could find the net in an opening period which saw Whitewater attempt six shots and the Vikings five. Each side put a pair on frame, with keepers
Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) and Erin Doody recording two saves apiece.
UWW's Mackenzie Serbousek finally broke the scoreless tie with a header off a Carina Kraausert corner in the 53rd minute. The goal gave the hosts the lead and ended a streak by Augustana of more than 453 minutes without allowing a goal.
Serbousek gave her team a 2-0 lead barely three minutes later, following up Carly Pottle's attempt that hit the post. Pottle was credited with an assist on Serbousek's goal.
In the 72nd minute, senior
Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) cut the Viking deficit in half with her team-leading 11th goal of the season. However, in the 79th minute, Whitewater's Jordan Jackson put a free kick in the lower right corner of the goal to extend the Warhawk advantage to 3-1.
Augustana got off just two shots the rest of the way. Doody made the save on a
Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) corner in the 84th minute and
Somer Druszkowski's
(Lincoln-Way Central HS, Manhattan, Ill.) attempt in the 87th minute went wide.
For the match, UWW held margins of 14-10 in shots and 8-2 in corners. Doody finished with four saves and Chew with three.
The Vikings will try to start a new winning streak on Tuesday, September 29 when Illinois Institute of Technology visits Thorson-Lucken Field for a 7:00 p.m. match.
