Sam Frasco set a new school record for total yards with 585 Saturday, but Augustana dropped
a 56-52 decision to Loras at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque, Iowa.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Senior quarterback Sam Frasco (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) had another record-setting day Saturday, but couldn't quite lift Augustana to a victory at Loras. The host Duhawks outscored the Vikings 29-3 in the second half to pull out a 56-52 win at the Rock Bowl. Both teams are now 1-2 on the season.

For the second week in a row, Frasco broke the school record for total offense in a game. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 312 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. The 585 yards of total offense shattered the mark of 469 he set last week against Albion. His rushing total was second-best in school history, 30 yards shy of Matt Roe's 2004 school record.

Frasco had scoring runs of 71 and 20 yards, as well as an eight-yard touchdown pass to Sean Fitzgerald (Providence Catholic HS, Manhattan, Ill.), as Augustana jumped to a 21-3 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Frasco scored on runs of 13 and 78 yards and the Vikings led 35-20 with eight minutes left in the half. Loras' scores to that point had come on field goals of 20 and 28 yards by Mason Quigley and touchdown passes by Nik Schulte of 11 and 36 yards to Danny Willis and Nate Even, respectively.

The Duhawks cut it to 35-27 on an 18-yard Schulte to Zach Minch touchdown pass, but the Vikings answered with a 68-yard, nine-play touchdown drive. Frasco's two-yard toss to Fitzgerald finished off the march and put Augustana up 42-27 with 1:42 on the clock. A Daniel Watson (Peoria HS, Peoria, Ill.) interception on Loras' next possession set up the final score of the half. It came on a three-yard Brandon Price (Providence Catholic HS, Plainfield, Ill.) run with 32 seconds left and put the Vikings up 49-27 going into the locker room.

Frasco finished the half with 262 yards and four touchdowns rushing and 157 yards and two touchdowns on 12-of-14 passing.

The contest swung in the third period, with the Duhawks scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions and forcing Augustana to punt on its first four. Loras achieved a tie at 49-49 on a 68-yard Schulte-to-Even pass with 6:51 left in the quarter and a two-point conversion by the same combo.

Jacob Stytz's (Minooka HS, Channahon, Ill.) 24-yard field goal with 9:40 to play regained the lead for the Vikings and the defense came up with a stop on the next possession. However, on a third-and-two play from the Augustana 48, Bryan Hermann picked off a Frasco pass and raced 50 yards down the left sideline to give the Duhawks their first lead. Quigley's point after made it 56-52.

The Vikings were stopped on downs with four minutes left, but the defense got a stop to give Frasco one last chance. He connected with Kyle Frake (Central HS, Clifton, Ill.) for 25 yards and Danny Lattner (Fenwick HS, Riverside, Ill.) for 21, but Duhawk Wes Bowers ended the threat, intercepting a pass that tipped off an Augustana receiver just before going out bounds. Schulte took a knee to run out the clock.

The contest saw over 1,200 yards of total offense, with each team producing over 600. The Vikings rushed 41 times for 366 yards and added 273 through the air for a total of 639—just 13 short of a school record. Fitzgerald made seven grabs and Frake and Lattner had five each. All but 18 of Loras' 606 yards came via the pass. Schulte finished 47 of 64 for 588 yards and six touchdowns. Even made 16 catches for 265 yards and two scores. Augustana limited the Duhawk ground game to 18 yards on 34 rushing attempts.

After an off week, the Vikings will be back at Lindberg Stadium on Saturday, October 3, hosting Elmhurst with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
