Kyle Doner scored seven goals and had an assist as Augustana romped past Dubuque
22-1 in CCIW action on Saturday, April 3 in Dubuque, Iowa.DUBUQUE, Iowa – Augustana pushed its men's lacrosse winning streak to seven straight on Friday, April 3 with a 22-1 road win over Dubuque. The Vikings, who haven't lost since dropping a 6-2 decision at Centre on March 3, are now 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.
Head coach
Kyle Hart's team jumped out to an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and were never headed. It was 16-0 before the Spartans scored their one and only goal with :27 left in the third period.
Junior
Kyle Doner (Peak-to-Peak HS, Erie, Colo.) ended up as the scoring leader for the Vikings as he tallied seven goals and had one assist for a total of eight points. Prior to the game Doner had just one goal and one assist for the season.
Juniors
Jonathan Bryk (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.),
Kevin Gleason (Loyola Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and
Andrew Miller (Waukesha North HS, Waukesha, Wis.) each had three goals while sophomore
JP Palasek (Montini Catholic HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and freshman
John Danko (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) had two apiece. Miller also added a game-high five assists.
The Vikings broke loose early in the contest when Danko scored off a
Colin Haley (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) feed before the game was two minutes old (13:26). Bryk scored unassisted at 11:32 and Gleason followed shortly after off an assist by senior
Vincent Giglierano (Archbishop Malloy HS, San Jose, Calif.) to make it 3-0.
Danko and Palasek had unassisted goals at 9;05 and 5:01 to bump the margin to 5-0. Gleason scored off a Doner assist at 4:01 and Gleason hit the nets again at 2:06 to make it 7-0. Doner ended the first period scoring onslaught with an unassisted goal at :59.
Miller scored three goals in a row to start the second period with assists going to Danko, freshman
Jake DeBeir (Eureka HS, Eureka, Ill.) and Palasek. That made it 11-0 and goals by Bryk and freshman
Cam MacKenzie (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) jumped the margin to 13-0 at intermission.
Doner scored three straight times to start the third period to make it 16-0 before Dubuque's Joshua Cramer broke the shutout with a goal just :27 before the stanza ended.
Doner would score three more times in the fourth along with Bryk, Palasek and senior
Mike McAleer (Downers Grove South HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.). Miller had four assists in the fourth quarter alone while Gleason and Palasek had one each.
Junior
Jack Peters (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) picked up the victory in goal as he worked the first 45 minutes.
Augustana won 17 of 27 face-offs and held a whopping 65-4 advantage in shots attempted. The Vikings were also ahead 66-25 in ground balls and forced 33 Dubuque turnovers.
The Vikings will now host Beloit on April 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
