Saturday, but the Vikings fell 11-6 at Carthage.KENOSHA, Wis. – An early 4-0 deficit proved a bit too much to overcome for Augustana Saturday, as the Vikings' bid for the first CCIW men's lacrosse championship came up short with an 11-6 loss at Carthage. Augustana (12-4, 4-1) finishes second in the CCIW's first season of play, while the Red Men (15-3, 5-0) win the league's inaugural regular season title.

(Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) got the Vikings on the board with an unassisted goal at 9:28 of the second quarter.

Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.) found the net to cut Augustana's halftime deficit to 6-2.
Sophomore
Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) scored off a Davis assist in the third quarter, but the Red Men got goals by Tanner Thomas, John Salerno and Billy Lane to lead 9-3 heading to the final period.
Senior
Colin Haley (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) and Zielinski cut the deficit to 9-5 with goals in the first three minutes of the fourth, but Salerno stopped the momentum, scoring with 10:56 to play. Luke Seidel added a Carthage goal at the 6:38 mark. Viking junior
Kevin Gleason (Loyola Academy, Chicago, Ill.) completed the scoring with 4:10 remaining.
The Red Men had statistical advantages of 36-22 in shots, 28-19 in ground balls and 14-8 in faceoffs. Augustana committed 16 turnovers, to 11 for Carthage.

Second seed Augustana will host third-seeded Illinois Wesleyan (10-6, 3-2) in a CCIW Tournament semifinal at Thorson-Lucken Field this week. The date and time have yet to be determined. The Vikings defeated the Titans 11-7 in Bloomington, Illinois on April 22.
