Men's tennis falls to NAIA Ashford 7-2

to pick up a win at number three doubles in Augustana's 7-2
loss at Ashford on Wednesday, April 22.

CLINTON, Iowa – Despite taking a 2-1 lead after doubles, Augustana fell to Ashford on Wednesday, April 22 in men's non-conference tennis action by a score of 7-2. The Vikings are now 12-11 overall heading into the final regular season match of the 2014-15 season on Sunday, April 26 against Luther in Decorah, Iowa at 2:00 p.m.
 
Freshmen Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) picked up an 8-5 win at number one doubles over Erich Taach and Brayton Rasche. The number three team of sophomore Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and junior Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) beat Bart Van Rooijen and Lucas Benites 9-7.
 
At number two doubles the Augustana team of senior Lawrence Palmer (Schiller International School, El Prat de Llobregat, Spain) and junior Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) fell to Gian Pico and Alvaro Merino 8-4.
 
Head coach Jon Miedema was forced to juggle his lineup a bit in singles due to some injuries. The Vikings ended up only having five healthy bodies for singles and forfeited at number six.
 
Pohl moved into the number one singles spot and fell to Pico 3-6; 2-6. Junior Patrick Lenz (Villanova HS, Ojai, Calif.) slid into the number two position and lost to Van Rooijen 5-7; 4-6. Woolf lost to Taach at number three 1-6; 3-6 and Schoeck dropped a three setter to Rasche 0-6; 6-4; 4-6 at number four. Sophomore Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) lost to Merino 4-6; 3-6 at number five.
