Jon Miedema

Jon Miedema took over as the head coach for both men’s and women’s tennis at Augustana in 2011 and has made his mark with both programs. His men have captured the last three CCIW championships (the 2020 event was canceled due to fears over COVID-19) and his women have claimed three of the last six conference titles and put together three consecutive perfect campaigns in CCIW dual-meet play from 2017-20.

In 2020-21, Miedema’s men won their third straight CCIW crown and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament for the third time in four years (the 2020 event was canceled). The Viking men finished 13-7 overall and 6-1 in the league. Augustana’s women saw the program’s CCIW dual-meet winning streak snapped at 27, but finished 10-6 overall and 6-2 and second at the conference championships.

After ten seasons, Miedema is the winningest coach in school history on both the men’s and women’s sides. He passed Harry S.B. Johnson as the winningest men’s coach in 2021 and now has a 161-94 record. He has a 180-72 career record with the Viking women, who've made two NCAA Tournament appearances under his guidance.

Miedema’s teams have enjoyed tremendous success in the CCIW. Augustana women and men have each won three conference championships during his tenure—all within the last six years. The Viking women have posted a 61-10 mark in league play, while the men have gone 41-15. In addition, he’s mentored six CCIW Players of the Year, four on the women’s side and two for the men. His women have had 30 All-CCIW selections and his men 19.

When Miedema stepped into the role as the head coach for men’s and women’s tennis at Augustana in June of 2011, he became the 13th women’s head coach and the 20th for the men.

Miedema came to the Vikings after spending one season (2010-11) as the head men’s tennis coach at Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. However, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the game. He served as the assistant coach for the women’s team at Calvin College, his alma mater, during the spring of 2011. He helped lead the Knights to a 19-4 overall record and a second round advancement in the NCAA Division III Championships.

Miedema served as a tennis instructor for three years at the Michigan Athletic Club, noted as one of the top clubs in the Midwest. He also worked as an instructor at the Centennial Country Club in Grand Rapids from 2004 through 2006.

As a player at Calvin he served as team captain during his senior season of 2005. He was a first team all-conference selection in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

A 2005 graduate of Calvin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and communications, Miedema worked as a health insurance agent for Kessler and Associates from 2007 until he took the Augustana position. He was also a loan officer for Brickwood Mortgage from 2005 through 2007. Jon and his wife, Kiki, are parents to daughters Zelia and Wren.
