ROCK ISLAND, Ill – For the second time on Saturday, Coach Meredith Newman received goals from 13 different players as Augustana defeated Elmhurst 22-1 on Senior Night at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings, who pounded Carroll 26-0 earlier in the day, improved to 14-1 on the season and 4-0 in the CCIW, while the Bluejays fell to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Seniors accounted for both goals and assists on Augustana's first three scores. Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) scored 11 seconds in off a feed from Emily Pavlik (Lyons HS, La Grange, Ill.). Kate Zisser (Kirkwood HS, St. Louis, Mo.) assisted on Alex Palmisano's (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) goal at 26:39 of the first half and Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) made it 3-0 with the help of another Pavlik assist.

The youngsters got in the act, with sophomore Anne Hopkins (Mother MacAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) scoring off an assist from junior Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.). Sophomore Olivia Mayer's (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) goal with 23:31 to play in the first half put the Vikings up 5-0. Kargl assisted on the play.

By halftime, it was 13-0 Augustana. The Vikings share the ball exceptionally well. With the exception of free position goals by Handrahan and junior Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) and Handrahan's power play goal with two seconds left, each Augustana goal of the first half came off an assist.

The lead reached 19-0 before Elmhurst finally got on the board with 2:47 remaining. Meghan Keyes free position goal was the first score by a Viking opponent in over 117 minutes of play on Saturday.

With 1:59 left, another senior, Bridget Conniff (Benet Academy, Downers Grove, Ill.)—normally a defender—scored just the second goal of her career and the first since her freshman season, to make it 20-1. Goals by Hopkins and junior Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) completed the scoring.

After recording assists on 23 of 26 goals against Carroll, Augustana dished out helpers on 15 of 22 goals against the Bluejays. Hopkins found the net five times. Handrahan had five assists and Kargl four. Senior Gina Filippo (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) and Hopkins shared game high honors with four ground balls each. Filippo also caused a game-high five turnovers. Nolan controlled six draws. Junior Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) went the first 53-plus minutes in goal, recording one save to pick up the win.

The Vikings had advantages of 35-6 in shots and 16-7 in both ground balls and draw controls. Augustana turned it over just eight times to 23 for Elmhurst.

Other seniors honored Saturday included Anna Kyllo (St. Croix Lutheran HS, Bloomington, Minn.), Nattali Shelton (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Barb Vega (Marian Catholic, Flossmoor, Ill.).

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday, April 22, hosting CCIW co-leader Carthage (10-4, 4-0) in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Thorson-Lucken Field.
