Vikings whitewash Carroll 26-0

Junior Kaylee Nolan scored five goals, snared three ground balls, forced two turnovers and 
shattered her own school record with 22 draw controls Saturday in Augustana's 26-0 win over
Carroll at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana had 13 different players score at least one goal Saturday, defeating Carroll 26-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. Junior Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) led the way with five goals and senior Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) and junior Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) each dished out six assists as the Vikings improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW. The Pioneers fell to 0-10 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.
 
Senior Emily Pavlik (Lyons Township HS, La Grange, Ill.) got the hosts on the board with a free position shot barely a minute into the game. Handrahan scored, along with Nolan, Kargl and Nolan twice more as Augustana took a 6-0 lead with just over five minutes gone.
 
The advantage quickly ballooned and when Nolan tallied her fifth and final goal of the game with 16:32 left in the first half, it was 12-0. Sophomore Anne Hopkins (Mother MacAuley, Chicago, Ill.), Kargl, senior Alex Palmisano (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and junior Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) each found the net in the final two minutes of the half and Augustana led 19-0 at the break.
 
Junior Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) opened the second half with a pair of goals and Pollard and seniors Gina Filippo (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) and Pavlik rounded out the scoring with tallies in the final five minutes.
 
In addition to Nolan's five goals, Kargl, Maduro and Hopkins added three each and Pavlik, Pollard and junior Quinn Foley (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) two apiece. Hopkins had three assists and senior Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) two.
 
Nolan shattered her own school record, controlling 22 draws. As a team, the Vikings controlled all 28 draws in the game. Seniors Nattali Shelton (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Filippo led the way defensively, with three caused turnovers each. Freshman goalkeepers Analia Fowler (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and Maddie Russell (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) split time in goal and neither faced a shot.
 
Coach Meredith Newman's squad will play a second game on Saturday, April 18, hosting Elmhurst in a 7:00 p.m. "Senior Night" contest.
