Vikings destroy Illinois Wesleyan 25-4 and go to 12-1 on the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Augustana scored the first 14 goals of the game and left little doubt about the outcome en route to defeating Illinois Wesleyan 25-4 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's lacrosse action on Wednesday, April 15 in Bloomington, Illinois. The Vikings scored twice in the first three minutes of the game and had the running clock in place at 15:09 of the first half.
 
Sophomore Anne Hopkins (Mother Mcauley HS, Chicago, Ill.) got things started with a goal at 28:48 off an assist by junior Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) and the Vikings were never headed. Hopkins would end the evening with four goals and two assists.
 
The scoring leader, however, was junior Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) with five goals and two assists while senior Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) added three goals and seven assists. Senior Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) contributed three goals and one assist.
 
Augustana completely dominated the game statistically, holding a whopping 47-6 advantage in shots and forcing 23 Titan turnovers. The Vikings also won 26 of 32 draw controls.
 
Junior Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) picked up the victory in goal.
 
Junior Kaylee Nolan (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) won 11 draw controls in the game.
 
Augustana is now 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW while Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 6-7 and 1-2. The Vikings will host Carroll at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 18 before facing Elmhurst at 7:00 p.m. later that same evening. Both of those games are CCIW contests and the Elmhurst game will be "Senior Night".
