Junior catcher John Swiderski had two hits Sunday, but Augustana dropped a 7-0 decision to
North Park at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Hunter Landry's bases-clearing double in the second gave starting pitcher Jason Meger all the runs he would need Sunday as North Park completed a three game sweep of Augustana, winning 7-0 at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field. The host Vikings dropped to 19-9 overall and 6-6 in the CCIW, while the visitors improved to 14-14 on the year and 4-8 in the league.

Augustana starter Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.) gave up a leadoff single to Joe Belmonte in the second followed by consecutive walks. That brought Landry to the plate and the North Park second baseman found the gap in right center, scoring all three runners. White retired the next two batters and settled in, putting up goose eggs for the next five innings.

Meanwhile Meger was keeping hosts' bats in check. Senior Danny Fifer (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.) and junior John Swiderski (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) had singles in the first, but were left stranded. Junior Jeff Prior (Rock Canyon HS, Lone Tree, Colo.) and senior Kyle Lenihan (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) had two-out singles in the fourth, but were also left on base.

In the seventh, Lenihan and junior Alex Fluehr (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) had singles, but Augustana couldn't plate either.

White stranded two runners in the sixth and pitched around an error in the seventh, but North Park got to him for two more in the eighth. Alec Strachota lined a leadoff double down the left field line and eventually scored on an error. Sophomore Nick Refka (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) relieved the Augustana starter and North Park added another run on Mitchell Jordan's RBI single.

Junior Nathan Gray (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Swiderski had hits in the eighth, but North Park turned a double play to wipe out Gray and Augustana again came away empty.

North Park added two runs in the top of the ninth and Meger set the hosts down in order in the bottom half to complete the shutout.

White gave up six hits and five runs (four earned) in seven innings. He walked two, struck out seven and suffered his first loss in five decisions.

Swiderski and Lenihan each had two of Augustana's nine hits.

Coach Greg Wallace's Vikings are back in action on Wednesday, April 15, hosting Grinnell in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game at Swanson-Brunner.
