during Augustana's 12-9 loss at Aurora.AURORA, Ill. – A slow start proved to be costly as Augustana saw its seven game winning streak snapped on Saturday, April 11 at Aurora. The Vikings, who had not tasted defeat since dropping a 6-2 decision at Centre on March 3, lost a tough 12-9 game at Aurora.
The host Spartan jumped off to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and led 4-1 at the end of one quarter and 5-2 at halftime. A wild third quarter saw Augustana tie the contest at 8-8 and early in the fourth the Vikings went ahead 9-8 on a goal by junior
Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.). Aurora scored the final four goals of the game, however, to take 12-9 victory.

After Aurora got a goal from Max Matthai to make it 5-2 with 4:13 left before halftime the Vikings hit the nets when freshman
John Danko (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) scored at 2:01 with Gleason assisting.
The third quarter was full of action as a total of eight goals were scored and Augustana tied the game at the 3:55 mark when Davis scored unassisted. Gleason scored three times and Davis twice in the period.
Davis' third and final goal of the game made it 9-8 with 14:06 left before Aurora broke away with four straight scores.
Gleason led the way for Augustana with four goals and an assist while Davis had three. Junior
Jerrell Collymore (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Flossmoor, Ill.) won 15 of 19 faceoffs for the Vikings and collected seven ground balls. Bryk added six ground balls.
The Vikings held a narrow 38-37 edge in shots and won 31 ground balls compared to 19 for Aurora. Augustana won 17 of 23 faceoffs in the game.
The Vikings, now 9-3 on the season, will face Carroll on April 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
