Sophomore Anne Hopkins scored seven goals - the fifth-highest total in school history - in
Augustana's 17-11 win over Wittenberg Friday in Greencastle, Indiana.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Sophomore Anne Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) scored seven goals Friday to lead Augustana to a 17-11 win over Wittenberg in a neutral site contest hosted by DePauw University. Hopkins' total tied the fifth-highest in program history for a single game. Coach Meredith Newman's Vikings won their ninth straight game to improve to 11-1 on the year. The Tigers dropped to 7-3 on the season.

Hopkins' goal at 27:44 of the first half gave Augustana a 1-0 lead. Wittenberg's Becca Joseph scored the equalizer barely a minute later, but the Vikings answered with four straight goals in a span of less than four minutes to take control. Hopkins had two of the four, with senior Hilary Kargl (Scared Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) and junior Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) tallying the other two.

After a Megan Loofbourow goal cut the Augustana lead to 5-2, sophomore Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.), Hopkins and Nolan each found the net to extend the Vikings' advantage to 8-2 with 12 minutes left in the half. The Tigers got to within 9-5, wrapping two goals by Logan Warye and one by Olivia Lash around an Augustana score by Nolan. However, junior Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) found the net off a Nolan assist with just eight seconds on the clock and Newman's crew took a 10-5 lead to the break.

For the second day in a row, the Vikings surrendered the first three goals of the second half as Wittenberg cut its deficit to 10-8. Once again Augustana responded, scoring five straight goals in less than seven minutes. A Kargl goal started the spree at the 21:31 mark and one by Hopkins finished it with 14:36 to play. Another Hopkins goal and scores by junior Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.), senior Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) were sandwiched in between.

A Lash tally and two by Joseph got the Tigers within four with 3:40 remaining, but Kargl and, fittingly, Hopkins completed the scoring with goals in the final two minutes.

In addition to Hopkins' big game, Newman got three goals each from Kargl and Nolan. Nolan's three assists, Mayer's six ground balls and Maduro's five draw controls and two caused turnovers were all game highs. Junior Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) added a pair of assists. Junior Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) made 11 saves in goal.

The Vikings visit Illinois Wesleyan for a CCIW contest on Wednesday, April 15. First draw in Bloomington, Illinois is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
