Orlando, Florida.

CLERMONT, Florida – Augustana stayed undefeated in softball for the 2015 season with a 10-5 win over Ohio Northern on Wednesday, March 4 in Clermont, Florida. The Vikings, now 8-0 on the season and ranked 20th in the latest NCAA Division III national poll, exploded for nine runs in the second inning and cruised to the win over the Polar Bears.

Junior Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) picked up the win on the mound as the southpaw went five innings as the starter before giving way to freshman Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.). Anderson gave four runs, but none of them were earned, on three hits with one strikeout and a walk. She also helped herself at the play by going two for four with a run scored and three runs-batted-in. Grandt gave up one run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts in her two innings of relief.

Augustana grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) doubled to lead things off. She promptly stole second and came home on an error on the play.

The Vikings broke things wide open in the second inning with a nine-run outburst. Junior Kassandra Anderson (Geneseo HS, Silvis, Ill.) hit a two run home run and senior Christie Wiersema (Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) cracked a three run homer. Ashley Anderson added a three run double to the carnage.

This game was not originally scheduled for Augustana's spring-break trip but a game with Lyndon State was cancelled due to rain so this game was inserted.

The Vikings had 11 hits with Behnke, Ashley Anderson and Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) each collecting two. Ashley Anderson and Wiersema both had three RBI.
