Brittany Kellett had two hits and two RBI as Augustana defeated Susquehanna 5-1
on Thursday to complete a 10-0 record in Clermont, Florida on spring break.CLERMONT, Florida – The 20
th ranked Augustana softball team completed a successful spring break trip with two more victories on Thursday, March 5 in Clermont, Florida. The Vikings beat St. Mary's (Minnesota) 6-5 in the first game and took care of Susquehanna 5-1 in the second game. With the two victories, head coach
Kris Kistler's team completes its spring break trip to Florida with a perfect 10-0 record.
Augustana will next be in action on March 15 with a double header against Blackburn in Carlinville, Illinois with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
03/05/15 – AUGUSTANA 6, ST. MARY'S (Minnesota) 5 Augustana had to battle from behind to pick up the victory after falling behind 4-1 through two innings. Two runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth allowed the Vikings to come out on top 6-5 in a game where St. Mary's was charged with seven errors.
St. Mary's picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the first to go in front 1-0 but Augustana answered in the top of the second with two runs. Senior catcher
Christina Pagan (Normal West HS, Normal, Ill.) singled home freshman
Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) with the first run and she scored the second on an error on a ball hit by senior
Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.).
The lead didn't last long, however, as St. Mary's scored four runs in the bottom of the second on three hits and one Viking error. Augustana starter
Christie Wiersema (Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) was knocked from the game and was replaced in the circle by freshman
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.).
Grandt would work the final 5 2/3 innings and scatter four hits without allowing a run and pick up the victory, her third of the year without a defeat. She struck out six and walked just two.
The score stayed 5-2 heading into the top of the fifth when the Vikings struck for a pair of runs. Senior
Jenna Teson (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) led off with a single to center field and junior
Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) reached on an error and moved Teson to second. Junior
Kassandra Anderson (Geneseo HS, Silvis, Ill.) also reached on an error and Teson scampered home to make it 5-3 with
Ashley Anderson taking third. A fly ball off the bat of junior
Emily Rasche (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) plated
Ashley Anderson to make it 5-4.
Grandt had a one-two-three inning in the fifth and Augustana went back to work in the sixth. Pagan led off with a walk and junior
Jennifer Gray (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) reached on an error during a sacrifice bunt attempt with Pagan moving to second. Behnke advanced both runners one bas with a sacrifice bunt and
Ashley Anderson ripped a single to center to score Pagan and Gray with what proved to be the difference-making runs in the game.
Augustana only had six hits in the contest but

Christina Pagan each had two.
03/05/15 – AUGUSTANA 5, SUSQUEHANNA 1 Junior
Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) was superb on the mound as she went the distance with a three-hitter in Augustana's 5-1 win over Susquehanna on Thursday, March 5 in Clermont, Florida. The win allowed the Vikings to finish their spring break trip with a perfect 10-0 record.
Anderson struck out five while walking one as she moved her record to 5-0 on the season.
The Vikings struck first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) led off with a double to right field and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Susquehanna tied it in the third but Augustana answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A triple to right field by junior
Emily Rasche (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was the big blow and sophomore catcher
Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands, The Woodlands, Texas) singled Rasche home with the third run of the inning.
Augustana tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Kellett doubled in senior
Cassie Saufley (Normal West HS, Hudson, Ill.), who had walked with two outs.
Behnke, Kellett and Rasche each had two hits to propel the Vikings' offense.
