Jack Peters (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) turned in an outstanding effort in goal to help lead Augustana to a 15-6 non-conference victory over Olivet on a sun-splashed Thorson-Lucken Field on Saturday, March 14. Peters stopped 21 Comet shots in over 55 minutes of play before giving way to freshman
Jake Ellis (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) for the final 4:38.
He recorded 11 saves in the first two periods as Augustana built a 7-3 halftime advantage. In the third period he had four saves as the Vikings pushed the margin to 12-4.
Junior
Kevin Gleason (Loyola Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and
Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Ill.) each had four goals to lead the Augustana offense. Davis added three assists and Gleason had one. Sophomore
Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) contributed three goals and an assist.
Davis got things started with an unassisted goal less than two minutes (13:07) into the game. Hawkins scored at 8:11 of the first to make it 2-0 with senior
Colin Haley (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) picking up an assist.
Olivet got a goal at 7;52 by Sheldon Berry to narrow the margin to 2-1 but the Vikings scored the next three and five of the next six to take command of the game.
Gleason scored unassisted at 2:52 of the first and then tallied at 14:21 of the second with an assist going to freshman
John Danko (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) to make it 4-1. Hawkins tallied at 10:30 to run the advantage to 5-1 before Dakota Badder hit the nets for Olivet at 7:19 to make it 5-2.
Following Badder's goal, Davis scored twice, unassisted at 3:51 and with an assist from freshman
Nick Zielinski (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) at 3:01.
With just one second left before halftime the Augustana defense broke down on a long pass and Shane Prunty of Olivet scored to make it 7-3 at intermission.
The Vikings broke the game wide open in the third period as Peters' was able to stop four shots while giving up just one goal from Jack Ranson with :24 left. Augustana scored five times in the third period. Gleason had the first two at 13:38 and 7:18 and Hawkins scored at 4:24. Davis assisted on all three of those goals. Danko scored at 2:09 on an assist from Gleason and again at 1:43 with Hawkins assisting to make it 12-3.

Taylor Johnson (Thomas Jefferson HS, Bloomington, Minn.) and sophomore
Cameron Mager (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) each scored their first goals of the season unassisted.
Shane Prunty led Olivet in scoring with three goals.
The Vikings won 15 of 22 faceoffs with freshman
McKay Potter (Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.) converting on 11 of 16. Augustana had 20 of 25 clears but fell sort on the ground ball statistic by a count of 32-29.
Hart's club is now 5-2 on the season and will face Cornell on Tuesday, March 17 at Thorson-Lucken Field.
