Junior Harald Olsson picked up victories at number five singles
and second doubles as Augustana moved to 4-2 on the season
with a 9-0 win over Cornell on Saturday, February 14 in Mount
Vernon, Iowa.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Augustana's 9-0 victory over Cornell on Saturday, February 14 in Mount Vernon, Iowa was exactly the type of performance that head men's tennis coach Jon Miedema was looking for from his Vikings. Miedema's team is heading into final's week and the fourth-year head coach was hoping there would not be any letdown on the court.

The Vikings certainly appeared to be pretty crisp as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and cruised home to the whitewash win over the Rams.

Freshmen Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) had a tight battle at number one doubles before pulling out a 9-8 (7-4) win over Kyrel Trim and Tucker Barnes. The number two team of juniors Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymasium, Stockholm, Sweden) defeated Hiro Harada and Ben Williamson 8-2. At number three doubles it was sophomore Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and junior Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) over Kristian Dale and Denton Tully 8-4.

Totten defeated Trim at number one singles by a score of 6-2; 3-6; 10-2 and it was his fifth consecutive victory this year as he moved his record to 8-4. Pohl took care of Barnes 7-5; 6-4 at number two.

Schoeck defeated Williamson 6-3; 6-1 at number three singles and Lenz moved his record to 7-2 on the season with a 6-0; 6-1 victory over Harada at number four. Olsson beat Reid Lange 6-1; 6-0 at number five and sophomore Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) handled Tully 6-0; 6-0.

Augustana is now 4-2 on the season and the win over the Rams was the fourth straight for Miedema's team. The Vikings will play NCAA Division I Mount St. Mary's on March 2 in Orlando, Florida at 8:00 a.m. as part of a four-match spring break trip.
