Hannah Lohmeier's goal in the 83rd minute Tuesday was the only score of the match and lifted
Augustana to a 1-0 win over Wartburg at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Despite having outshot Wartburg by a two-to-one margin through 82 minutes Tuesday at Thorson-Lucken Field, Augustana found itself locked in scoreless tie. However, in the 83rd minute, junior Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.) scored her second goal of the season to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. The defense closed it out from there as Coach Scott Mejia's squad improved to 9-3 on the year. Wartburg fell to 7-4-1.

Wartburg keeper Beth Crow actually got a piece of Lohmeier's lob wedge from 25 yards out, but was ruled in the goal at the time, allowing the Vikings to take the lead.

The Augustana defense, led by the back line of senior Stef Hamaker (Boylan HS, Caledonia, Ill.), junior Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.), sophomore Sammi Farkos (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Flossmoor, Ill.) and freshman Melette DeVore (Kennedy HS, Cedar Rapids, Iowa), made it difficult for Wartburg to muster much of an attack all match. DeVore was making her first collegiate start.

The Knights put four of their nine shots on goal, but senior keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded four saves and Frys came up with a big team save in the 36th minute.

Prior to Lohmeier's goal, the Vikings' best opportunity came in the 62nd minute, when junior Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) unleashed a blast from out front that Crow batted over the crossbar. It was one of five saves credited to the Wartburg goalie.

For the match, Augustana had a 15-9 advantage in shots. Corners were even at four apiece.

Mejia's crew jumps back into CCIW action on Saturday, October 10. Elmhurst visits Thorson-Lucken Field for a 1:00 p.m. match. That contest will be the opener of a women's/men's doubleheader.
