Senior Kelly Farell provided the margin of victory Saturday, scoring her 15th goal of the season
to help Augustana defeat Millikin 1-0 on Senior Day at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) celebrated Senior Day with the match's only goal Saturday as Augustana clinched second place in the CCIW with a 1-0 win over Millikin at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings finish the regular season with a 15-3-1 record, including 5-1-1 in the conference. The Big Blue dropped to 6-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the league.

Farell's goal, her 15th of the season and the 45th of her career, came in the 11th minute off an assist from one of the day's other honorees, Jessica Kras (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.).

Augustana kept pressure on throughout the match, but couldn't get another one past Big Blue keeper Anna Benvenuto. Benvenuto had several impressive saves among her 11 total. On two occasions she denied a Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.) header off a Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) corner. Viking senior Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) stopped the only shot she faced, a header by Kayla Lojas just before halftime.

The hosts had a commanding 22-1 advantage in shots for the day as well as a 6-2 edge in corners.

In addition to Farell, Kras and Chew, Augustana recognized Somer Druszkowski (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Manhattan, Ill.), Stef Hamaker (Boylan Catholic HS, Caledonia, Ill.) and Kortney Hix (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) as part of Senior Day festivities.

The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday, November 4, hosting 22nd-ranked Wheaton in a CCIW Tournament semifinal. Second-seed Augustana and the third-seeded Thunder will face off at Thorson-Lucken Field, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
