Veteran head coach Scott Mejia picked up his 200th win with the Augustana women Wednesday.
The Vikings defeated North Central 2-1 in Naperville, Illinois.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) scored on a breakaway in the 82nd minute Wednesday to lift Augustana to a 2-1 win over North Central at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The win is the 200th for Scott Mejia as head coach of the Viking women and improved the team's record to 12-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CCIW. The host Cardinals dropped to 7-7 on the year and 2-2 in the league.

Senior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) gave Augustana a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute with her team-leading 13th goal of the season. The unassisted tally resulted from a Farell run up the right side. It moved the senior past Tessa Roberts into second place all-time at Augustana with 114 points.

North Central got the equalizer in the 38th minute. Victoria Stutzman parlayed an Emily Gaither assist into her third goal of the season. It ended a string of 472 straight scoreless minutes by the Viking defense and keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.).

The teams went to intermission tied at 1-1 despite Augustana peppering Cardinal keeper Nicki Seiton with 13 first-half shots, 10 of which were on frame.

In the 75th minute, Farell had her potential go-ahead goal hit the post. However, 12 minutes later, Rizzo got loose on a breakaway and beat Seiton to put the Vikings back on top.

Chew recorded a pair of saves in the final seven minutes to preserve the victory.

North Central narrowed the statistical gap in the second half, but Augustana finished with a 17-14 advantage in shots, including 12-10 in shots on goal. Corners were even at four apiece. Chew equaled her season high with nine saves, while Seiton stopped 10 shots.

On Saturday, October 24, the Vikings travel to Chicago, Illinois to face North Park in a 1:00 p.m. match.
