help lift Augustana to a 2-0 win at Aurora.

AURORA, Ill. – Second-half goals by junior Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) and senior Jessica Kras (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) lifted Augustana to a 2-0 win over Aurora Tuesday afternoon at Vago Field. The Vikings improved to 11-3 on the year with the win and Head Coach Scott Mejia moved within one win of 200 in 15 seasons at Augustana. The host Spartans fell to 6-7 this season.

After outshooting Aurora 8-2 in a scoreless first half, the Vikings' two goals came on their only shots of the second period. In the 57th minute, Rizzo gave the visitors the lead with her second goal of the season. Mejia's club tallied a big insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Kras parlayed a Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Pallatine, Ill.) assist into her fifth goal of the year. The assist was Frys' team-leading eighth of the season.

Aurora's Nicci Bermudes, who came into the match with 16 goals, was held in check by the Viking defense. She got off seven shots, but only one was on frame, with Augustana keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS Phoenix, Ariz.) recording one of her two saves on the day.

The Spartans had an 8-2 advantage in shots in the second half to finish the match even at 10. Aurora had a 5-4 edge in corners. Chew's counterpart, Caitlin DeRuiter, came up with six saves, all in the first half.

The Vikings will try to move over .500 in the CCIW and get Mejia his 200th win on Saturday, October 17 against Carthage. That match, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is scheduled to kick off at noon.
