season Saturday as Augustana defated Elmhurst 1-0 at Thorson-
Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana sophomore Mady Huber (Legacy HS, Broomfield, Colo.) and senior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) teamed up for the only score of the match Saturday, as the Vikings defeated Elmhurst 1-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's club improved to 10-3 on the year and evened its record at 1-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. The Bluejays dropped to 5-4-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Despite controlling play for the most part in the opening half, Augustana couldn't convert and the teams went to the break tied 0-0. The Vikings outshot Elmhurst 7-2 in the first 45 minutes, putting five of their attempts on goal to just one for the Blujays.

Elmhurst had the first good scoring opportunity of the second half. In the 54th minute, Augustana keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) left her feet in an attempt to intercept a cross. The resulting loose ball was collected by Sidney O'Keefe directly in front of the Viking goal, but her point-blank attempt went wide left and the match remained scoreless.

In the 62nd minute Augustana was able to erase its goose egg from the board. Huber (Legacy HS, Broomfield, Colo.) fed Farell, who beat a defender going to her right and put a shot past Bluejay keeper Melinda Vickers into the left side of the net. The goal was Farell's team-leading 12th of the season and the 42nd of her career—fourth most in school history. Her next point will tie Tessa Roberts (113) for second on the Vikings' career list. Huber's assist was her sixth of the season—second most on the team.

The defense took it from there, posting its second straight shutout and eighth on the season. Chew went the distance in goal and recorded three saves to improve to 10-3 on the year. Vickers was credited with six saves on the afternoon.

On Tuesday, October 13, the Vikings will face Aurora on the road. That match is schedule to kick off at 2:00 p.m.
