ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshman Shonari Phillips (Tindley HS, Indianapolis, Ind.) scored the only goal of the match Saturday as Augustana evened its record in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin at 1-1 with a 1-0 victory over Elmhurst at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Mick Regan's Vikings are now 4-9-1 on the year. The Bluejays, who defeated league kingpin Wheaton in their only other conference tilt this year, dropped to 4-7-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW.

Augustana controlled play from the start, getting off a pair of shots before the contest was two minutes old and outshooting Elmhurst 10-1 in the first half. The Bluejays survived a flurry of Viking shots in the 40th minute. The first, by senior Jonathan Colucci (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) hit the crossbar and his follow up, as well as one by classmate Andrew Smith (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.) were turned away by keeper Nick King.

Despite Augustana's domination, the match was scoreless as the teams headed to the locker room.

The afternoon's only goal came on the first shot taken in the second half. Phillips' header found the net for the team-leading fourth time this year with assists from junior Dominick Sullivan (Plainfield East HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.) and sophomore Adam Buric (Notre Dame Academy, Scottsdale, Ariz.).

The Viking defense, led by the back line of Buric, seniors Adam Witucki (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) and Erik Gustafson (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and junior Ryan Curry (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.), stifled Elmhurst the entire match. The Bluejays squeezed off just three shots, two of which were wide and one that was blocked.

Augustana put six of its 15 shots on frame with two more finding the crossbar. King recorded five saves for the Bluejays.

The Vikings will have a chance to move over .500 in the conference when they visit Carthage for a 2:30 p.m. match on Saturday, October 17 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
