ELSAH, Ill. – A quick start proved to be the spark Augustana needed in a 3-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Principia on Saturday, September 20 in Elsah, Illinois. The Vikings scored two goals in the first 3:30 of play and dominated play the rest of the way.

It didn't take long for the visitors to get on the board as sophomore Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) scored on a breakaway just 3:00 into the game to give her team a 1-0 lead. Just 30 seconds later Rizzo fed junior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) for the second goal of the game to make it 2-0.

That would be all the scoring for the Vikings in the first half but in the second half, Rizzo hit the nets again, this time off a feed from junior Jessica Kras (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.). Rizzo's second goal of the game made it 3-0 in favor of Augustana at the 63:00 mark.

The Vikings held a 20-7 advantage in shots over the Panthers, including a 13-4 advantage in the second half. Rizzo and senior Taylor Navarro (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) each had four shots in the game.

Junior Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman Bailey Bradford (Deerfield HS, Riverwoods, Ill.) split time in goal with each playing 45 minutes. Chew recorded two saves in the first half and Bradford four in the second as the two combined for Augustana's second consecutive shutout.

The Vikings are now 5-1 on the season and will host Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, September 24 at Thorson-Lucken Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
