ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – For the second straight match, a Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) goal in the second overtime period has given Augustana a victory at Thorson-Lucken Field. Rizzo's game-winner in the 110th minute Wednesday lifted the Vikings to a 1-0 win over Dubuque. Coach Scott Mejia's side improves to 4-1 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 6-2.

In a remarkably evenly-played match, the deciding sequence was set up by a Mady Huber (Legacy HS, Broomfield, Colo.) takeaway near midfield. Fellow freshman Grace Iaquinta (Lincoln East HS, Lincoln, Neb.) came away with the ball and with time running out, fired a pass ahead. Junior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) deflected it to Rizzo and the Viking sophomore chipped it over the head of Dubuque keeper Tiffany Duncan to end the contest with eight seconds showing on the clock. The goal was Rizzo's team-leading fourth of the year and Farell's second assist of the season gives her the team lead as well.

Augustana finished with an 11-9 edge in shots, putting six on goal to five for the Spartans. Dubuque took four corners to the Vikings' three. Both Duncan and Augustana junior Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) were credited with two saves in each half and one in overtime for a total of five apiece.

Next up for Mejia's squad is a trip to Elsa, Illinois on Saturday, September 20 to face Principia at 1:00 p.m. A match originally scheduled for Sunday, September 21 against Eureka at Thorson-Lucken Field has been canceled.
