Junior Jessica Kras had a goal and an assist Saturday as Augustana defeated Marian 2-1 in double
overtime at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) scored off a Jessica Kras (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) assist in the 102nd minute Saturday to give Augustana a 2-1 double-overtime win over Marian at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings are now 3-1 on the year, while the Sabres fall to 1-4.

Despite a whopping 33-7 advantage in shots during regulation play, Augustana needed an extra 11-plus minutes to decide things. Marian's Brittany Syms lofted a shot over Viking keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) in the 81st minute to give the Sabres the equalizer. Gabby Solis was credited with the assist on the play.

Kras had given the hosts the lead in the 12th minute with her third goal of the season. Sophomore Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.) got her head on a Brianne Frys (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) corner from the left side, slipping it to Kras on the right and the junior's shot beat Sabre keeper Caitlyn Rosenberger in the upper left corner.

Augustana, which squeezed off an amazing 24 shots in the second half, nearly ended things early in the first overtime. Less than two minutes in, junior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) fired a shot from the right side that banged off the far post. Twenty seconds later, senior Taylor Navarro's (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) header off a Kerri Skotnicki (Waubonsie Valley HS, Aurora, Ill.) corner hit the crossbar, allowing the match to continue. Freshman Grace Iaquinta (Lincoln East HS, Lincoln, Neb.) got off two more shots in the period and Skotnicki one, but none yielded the game-winner.

That came a minute and a half into the second extra session, when Kras intercepted a pass near midfield and fed ahead to a darting Rizzo. The sophomore beat Rosenberger to the keeper's left side for her third tally of the season.

The Vikings finished with a 39-8 edge in shots, including a 16-4 margin in shots on goal. Augustana also had a 10-1 advantage in corners. Rosenberger made 14 saves in the match, while Chew was credited with three.

Next up for Mejia's side is a contest against Dubuque at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday, September 17. The Spartans, 6-1 on the year, and Vikings are scheduled to square off at 7:00 p.m.
