MOLINE, Ill. – After winning its CCIW Tournament opener on Thursday, Augustana suffered a pair of losses Friday and was eliminated from championship contention. The Vikings, now 29-12, fell to Illinois Wesleyan 12-4 and North Central 8-4 at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field and now await Sunday's announcement of the NCAA Tournament field in hopes of earning an at-large berth. Swanson/Brunner will host an NCAA Regional beginning on Wednesday, May 14.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 12, AUGUSTANA 4

Illinois Wesleyan second baseman Jarrod Juskiewicz had a huge game in the Titans' 12-4 win, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, four runs scored and four driven in. His first homer, a two-run blast to right in the fifth, put IWU up 6-1 and he added another two-run shot, this one to right center in the bottom of the eighth, to finish the game's scoring.

Wesleyan started its usual closer, John Munyon, on the mound. The Vikings managed 10 hits against him in his 6 2/3 innings, but he gave up just three runs and left with a 6-3 lead.

Augustana starter Chris Sauer (Rock Canyon HS, Littleton, Colo.) stranded two runners in the first and left the bags full of Titans in the second, although they did get to him for two runs on Tim Coonan's double to right center. The teams traded runs in the third. Junior Danny Fifer (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.) knocked one in for the Vikings with an infield hit, but IWU answered in the bottom half, plating a run on a wild pitch.

After Juskiewicz's first homer, junior Jacques Camalick (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) doubled in a Viking run in the sixth inning and Fifer singled in another in the top of the seventh to get Coach Greg Wallace's club to within 6-3, but the Titans scored four in the bottom of the seventh. Augustana loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but came away with just one run and Juskiewicz's second round tripper in the bottom half accounted for the final.

Sauer lasted 4 1/3 innings and took just his second loss in eight decisions. Fifer had three of the Vikings' 13 hits and drove in two runs.

NORTH CENTRAL 8, AUGUSTANA 4

Six errors cost the Vikings in their second game of the day. Sophomore Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.) (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season in hard luck fashion. He gave up just six hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings, while fanning a half dozen. Only four of the eight runs White surrendered were earned and two of those scored as the result of a wind-blown triple.

The Cardinals parlayed four Augustana miscues into three unearned runs in the second inning. In the third, they added a pair of runs, keyed by Sam Klein's leadoff, wind-blown three-bagger.

The Vikings scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings on a Camalick sacrifice fly, a Fifer RBI single and a run-scoring single by Camalick, respectively. When senior Jacob Van Duyne (Wilmington HS, Wilmington, Ill.) singled in sophomore Alex Fluehr (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) with two outs in the top of the sixth, Augustana had cut the North Central lead to 5-4.

However, the Cardinals ended things, for all intents and purposes, with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. White fanned the first batter of the inning, but consecutive hit-by-pitches, another Viking error, Sam Carius' two-run single and Joe Paparone's sacrifice fly put North Central up 8-4.

Fifer and Fluehr each had a pair of hits and Camalick drove in two runs. North Central's Bryan Polowy went the distance to get the win.
