Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Seniors
Jaime Rehmert (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) and
Sarah Hintz (LeRoy HS, LeRoy, Ill.) played huge roles as Augustana defeated North Central 2-1 in the opening round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin softball tournament on Friday, May 2 in Bloomington, Illinois. The Vikings, now 32-9 on the year, move into a winner's bracket game later tonight at 6:00 p.m. while North Central, 29-10, falls into the loser's bracket with a 4:00 p.m. game.
Rehmert blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off North Central starter Andrea Starr to provide the winning margin for Augustana. Hintz went the distance in the circle with a three-hit, seven inning gem in which she struck out nine and walked three.
North put one run on the board in the top of the sixth inning to take a 1-0 lead. A double by Kiersten Tinkoff drove home Kayla Antle but the lead proved to be short-lived for the Cardinals.
In the bottom of the sixth junior
Jenna Teson (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) beat out an infield single. She was forced at second on a fielder's choice by senior
Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.). Rehmert was the next batter and she drilled a home run to right field to plate Watson.
Augustana had nine hits in the game with Teson and Watson each collecting two. The Vikings also survived two errors.
