Box Score Head coach Sara Tisdale's Augustana women's lacrosse team extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 22-0 swamping of Benedictine on Tuesday, April 8
th. The Vikings moved to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference with victory as the Eagles fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
The visitors had 12 different players tally a goal including the trio of
Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.),
Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.), and
Annie Hopkins (Mother Mcauley HS, Chicago, Ill.) that each tallied a hat trick. Pollard and Nolan each added an assist while Hopkins registered four.
Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) was one of four Vikings to score a pair of goals but she also recorded a game-high five assists.
Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) along with teammates
Gina Filippo (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) and
Maggie DelVecchio (Barrington HS, Barrington, Ill.) were the other Vikings with a two tallies on the night.
Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) was one of five Vikings to tally one score and she also had three assists in the contest.
Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.),
Shelby Cosman (Marion Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.),
Patty Miller (William Fremd HS, Inverness, Ill.), and
Madi Stoneman (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) were the other Vikings to score. Miller along with
Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) and
Alex Palmisano (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) each tallied an assist in the victory.
Augustana recorded its 10
th goal to initiate the running clock with13:49 left in the opening half. The blue and gold then scored five more goals to close out the half for a 15-0 halftime advantage over the Eagles. Tisdale's crew outshot the hosts by a 28-4 margin in the contest and capitalized on all seven of its second half shot attempts.
Stelzer and Cosman each gathered three of Augustana's 17 groundballs while Nolan registered eight of the Vikings' 17 draw controls. Benedictine recovered 12 ground balls and controlled five of the games 22 draws. Filippo led the blue and gold with three caused turnovers while Stelzer, Cosman, and
Meredith Goodale (New Trier HS, Glencoe, Ill.) each forced three. Benedictine gave the ball up 20 times to Augustana's 15.
Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) got the win in the net for Augustana and moved to 8-0 on the season. Hofmann recorded the Vikings' only save of the contest before being relieved by
Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) at intermission.
On Saturday, April 12
th the Vikings will match up against MWLC opponent Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio for an 11:00 a.m. Central time start. The Lions currently hold a 7-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play and will visit Transylvania before hosting Tisdale's squad. Augustana won the only meeting between the two programs by a 19-6 margin during the 2013 season.
